The aim of this study was to assess the impact of a single nasal allergen challenge (NAC) on levels of eotaxin and IL-8 and the inflammatory cells in upper and lower airways of allergic rhinitis (AR) patients.
We measured the level of eotaxin expression and inflammatory cell count in the material from nasal brushing in healthy controls and in patients with allergic rhinitis, asthma, and COPD.
Our results show that the IL-4 antisense PS-ODN effectively inhibits IL-4, IgE synthesis, and eotaxin, principal mediators of allergic inflammation, suggesting that PS-ODNs might offer a possible topical treatment for allergic rhinitis.
